Autobots prepping for War for Cybertron in 2010

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a half decent Transformers game. Ever since the pretty cool PS2 game, we’ve been treated to two substandard movie tie-ins that have gone the way of nearly all movie tie-ins. The latest hope for the Autobots arrives in 2010 as Activision announced Transformers: The War for Cybertron according to early Game Informer news.

Now, if you’re a fan of Transformers (like me), then you’ll understand that over the years there have been many different continuities for Optimus Prime and co, and this game falls into none of them. It’s developed by High Moon Studios, responsible for the okay Bourne game and Darkwatch, which was a little better. They want to take this game in a more Gear of War-ish direction, but keeping the two sides, both the heroic Autobots and evil Deceptions playable too. The art style sort of meets both the original animated and movie incarnations of the characters in the middle.

The game is set for release on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. This is an Activision game though, so count DS at the very least along for the ride too. We’ll see the first trailer this week. We’re just hoping there won’t be any Decepticon testicles in this one.
