November NPDs: Modern Warfare 2 dominates, 360/PS3 switch places

November’s NPD numbers are in and they bring hardly any surprises on the software front — selling through over six million copies on the PS3 and 360 combined, Modern Warfare 2 took the top spot by a very wide margin. The Infinity Ward title is followed by Nintendo’s New Super Mario Bros. Wii (1.39 million copies) and Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed II (1.24 million copies).

The hardware side is a bit more interesting though; Perhaps somewhat unexpectedly, the Xbox 360 has overtaken the PlayStation 3 once more, forcing Sony’s system back to the third place following the post-price cut, post-PS3 slim success it had in October.

Top 10s for both software and hardware follow.
