In anticipation of the game’s Japanese launch in two says, Square Enix has shipped a million copies of Final Fantasy XIII to retailers around the country. On the day of the launch, December 17, another shipment of 150,000 will follow, which in turn will be followed by an additional 150,000 copies over the next weekend. So the best case scenario is that early sales will amount up to 1.3 million, which would mean that there will be roughly one copy of the RPG per every four PS3s in the country.
To compare, last gen’s Final Fantasy XII shipped 2 million copies pre-launch. The PS2’s install base at the time was larger though.
