Microsoft today launched the Games on Demand update to their Games for Windows Live service. Similar to the Xbox Live version, minus the ample amount of games, the service allows for the purchase, download, and enjoyment of titles from the library within minutes.
“With Games on Demand, we didn’t just want to create a cut-and-paste version of existing digital distribution services,” said Mike Ybarra, General Manager of LIVE Engagement Services. “We challenged ourselves to deliver an integrated platform that takes full advantage of the unique capabilities offered by the LIVE service. Our goal has always been to create a seamless online gaming experience for the Windows community, and Games on Demand is a great step toward that end.”
The launch games include Resident Evil 5, Red Faction: Guerrilla, and Battlestations: Pacific, as well as Shadowrun at a 50% discount. While the press release states that World of Goo and Osmos would also be available today, those titles remain a no-show as of this writing, but Tinker, the former Windows Vista Ultimate exclusive extra, is there for free and offers 200 achievement points. Yes, we said free and it is pretty good.
