UK government to invest in game industry

Enough with the banks. Now it’s time for the UK government to lay a hand to the societal institutions which truly matter — the game companies. The UK government plans to invest £10 million in a number of game industry initiatives. Much of the funding will be focused on developing comprehensive industry research at Abertay University and commercializing said research in concert with MediaCity UK.

TIGA CEO Dr. Richard Wilson is excited by the government’s commitment to invest in games research and development: “This is good news for the UK games industry. We particularly welcome the intention to use the funding to invest in prototypes to support new Intellectual Property (IP) development. Finding sources for finance for new IP is difficult at the best of times.”
