Wii + PS3 = 13 million in Japan

The Japanese love them some videogames. According to Asian media outlet Enterbrain, Nintendo has sold 9,048,012 Wii units in Japan. Moreover, 4,020,563 PlayStation 3’s have been purchased by the Japanese. The figures contain data through December 13, and sends a clear signal that the Wii is the dominant home console in the market. Part of the Wii’s impressive placement number has to do with the recent release of New Super Mario Brothers Wii. The update of the classic game sold 1.4 million copies in a scant 11 days, making it the fastest selling Wii game ever. Yet, since the game’s launch, Wii sales have been up by as much as 128%.
