That didn’t take long — the rumor of Infinity Ward possibly skipping Modern Warfare 3 has been followed up by “industry sources” telling Dtoid that the studio’s new project is an MMO.
Apparently Infinity Ward is bringing in people from Sony Online Entertainment, one of whom may be EverQuest II‘s lead designer, to assist with the project. Someone from Blizzard being involved is also talked about which, with the MMO giant now being a part of the roof that’s hovering over Infinity Ward’s head, seems highly plausible.
What kind of an MMO this would be is uncertain, but Activision has been pondering about sizing up the Call of Duty franchise for a while now. “…when you think about other properties that we own and control, like Call of Duty, and what would be the natural evolution of a property like Call of Duty into a massively multiplayer environment, and how do you monetize that,” said CEO Bobby Kotick last year the Morgan Stanley Technical Conference.
Still, all unconfirmed rumors for now.
