Half-Life 2 gets an unofficial update

Half-Life 2 may still be a great looking game (especially in the facial animation department) after more than half a decade on the market but it doesn’t hurt to touch it up a bit which is what one modder, known as Filip Victor, did to the PC version of the Half-Life 2.

The game as a whole has been updated to match the offerings of The Orange Box engine, which means the addition of many things such as high dynamic range, shadows produced by the player’s flashlight, updated fire effects, updated textures as well as improved models. Unlike Fakefactory’s Cinematic Mod, the models haven’t been completely changed but rather slightly modified in both looks and facial animations.

The mod was said to be done by comparing decompiled PC maps to a playthrough of the Xbox 360 version of Half-Life 2 which already received the Source engine updates which made it look much better than the PC version. It requires Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode Two to run. It also includes 32 unofficial achievements. More info revolving around where to acquire such a mod is located on the Steam forums.
