And so after endless rumors and fan posters, it seems like the Metal Gear Solid movie isn’t going to happen anymore. This may come like a stinger missile to the ray dome for many Metal Gear fans, as numerous tid-bits of news over the past few years had raised hopes for an adaption to come our way soon. Sadly though it was producer Michael De Luca who broke the news, “I don’t think it’s going to move forward because I got the sense that there may not be enough of a coordinated will at this point on the side of certain parties to see a movie get made.”
Still, given the usual quality of games-to-film adaptions, maybe Snake’s dodged a bullet this time. “Video game companies are very protective of their property and there are certain things a studio requires freedom-wise to market and distribute a movie effectively in a global marketplace and sometimes getting those two things to match up is really hard.” I guess combining Hollywood action with all those long conversations about soul searching would be hard to mold into the perfect Metal Gear flick.
Rumor has it that money wise Sony Pictures just weren’t willing to chalk up enough cash for the movie to satisfy Konami and Kojima Productions. Apparently $40 million – $80 million just isn’t enough money these days.
