Updated / Assassin’s Creed series getting multiplayer in about a year, Ubisoft CEO says

Update: The multiplayer Assassin’s Creed product is not AC2 DLC

Original story: The same update that brought news of Splinter Cell: Conviction‘s and R.U.S.E.‘s delays also made mention of an upcoming multiplayer-equipped Assassin’s Creed “episode” that will be released during Ubisoft’s 2010-11 fiscal year (April 2010 – March 2011). Whether this is an unannounced piece of downloadable content for Assassin’s Creed II or a full-blown sequel is anyone’s guess, but going by CEO Yves Guillemot’s words it appears to be attached to a bigger product.

While naming already known games that are set for release in the same time frame, Guillemot said that “a new episode of Assassin’s Creed, which will be the first in the series to have an online multiplayer mode,” is on the way.
