Modern Warfare 2 becomes a billionaire, 2009’s most sold game in the UK

Modern Warfare 2 has brought in $1 billion since its launch in November, according to Activision’s internal estimates, and, according to CEO Bobby Kotick, “has exceeded our expectations”. As reported last year, the game raked in more than half of that sum, $550 million, in its first five days alone, leaving behind the biggest five-day theatrical releases like Avatar, The Dark Knight and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Following nine weeks of chart topping, the game’s also been announced as 2009’s top-selling game in the UK (top 20 below). Exact numbers haven’t been revealed but we do know the game is already the third best-selling title of all time in the country, only preceded by Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
