Mass Effect 2 DLC platform, first DLC announced

Downloadable content for Mass Effect 2 will be distributed through The Cerberus Network, an in-game “portal” that will offer news on upcoming content as well as the content itself, BioWare announced today. The Network is activated with a code included in all new retail and digital copies of the game; those who buy the game used will have to pay a one time fee to gain access.

As thought, the first DLC — offering up new in-game items and missions, among them one that introduces Zaeed, the Shepard-poking gun-for-hire pictured above (another image here) — will become available on January 26, the day ME2 launches in North America. More new missions and in-game items will follow some time after launch, among them a Hammerhead hover tank, armor, and weapons.
