VP responds to analyst’s ‘Epic regrets Gears exclusivity’ comment

In an appearance on GT’s Bonus Round some days ago Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter said Gears of War developer Epic Games probably regrets their exclusivity deal with Microsoft. “I think that Microsoft has a contract to make sure that they get that sequel,” Pachter said when discussing whether Gears will some day go multi-platform, believing that Epic itself “regrets signing that contract.”

“You’re up to 11 million PS3s in the U.S. and probably a similar number in Europe. You’ve got a 20 million addressable market with a game like Gears of War? That thing would easily sell three or four million on the PS3. That’s a lot of profit,” he said.

To that, Epic Games’ VP Mark Rein responds only with, “We have a great relationship with Microsoft and we have no regrets.” And that’s about as diplomatic as you can get.
