Crysis 2 among the best looking games on any platform, first details arrive
BY Rain Anderson Feb. 1st, 2010 More on:

German magazine PCGames has brought forth the first few details on Crysis 2, Crytek’s upcoming PC and console-bound visual powerhouse of a shooter.

The game takes place three years after the first game in a devastated New York City where, Crytek says, players will experience plenty of surprises as well as a deeper storyline than the studio’s previous games have offered.

The protagonist’s Nanosuit 2, which Crytek is very proud of, has been changed up a bit too. Going beyond the different looks, a new ‘tactics’ mode has been introduced, a mode that will help players gather information about the environment, enemy positions, as well as find out information about fallen soldiers. The suit still has a total of four modes but, as many players requested, the ‘power’ and ’speed’ modes have been combined.

The destroyed big city setting allows Crytek to do more vertical level design that in turn will give more gameplay options — planning an attack from above, for example.

The magazine was shown the Xbox 360 version of the game and it looked good; among the best looking games available on any system, they in fact say.

Id say, i mean, ofcourse a nuclear powered super computer developed by aliens in the future could play Crysis 2, but the PS3 should have no problem running smoothly at the highest settings of the PC version.

      and the 360? Doesnt stand a chance…

They have said that the game will be better on the ps3 in all departments because of the processors and disc space. The 360 version will be inferior they have stated.

lols @bob-maul: Stop making stuff up would you please :D

Words from Crytek’s director of technology Mark Atkinson: “If the game’s shader-heavy it runs a bit faster on 360; if it’s compute-heavy with physics and particles, then the SPUs take over and it’s a bit quicker on PS3,” and, “both run at the same speed.”

If those screens where from 360 version then they have definitely crossed Crysis 1 High setting standards on 360.

Superb. The screens where terrefic. Also PC version running on GTX 295 or radeon 5850 with icore-7 would be even 4 X better than consoles.

You PS3 Fanboys are morons…. THE PS3 can’t do any better than the 360. Where the heck have you been the past 4 years???????? Why are so many games better looking and playing on the 360??? IT IS because the 360 is just as powerful as the ps3!!!! There is NO WAY they will be able to come close to what he PC can do, as far as gameplay and online play the 360 beats both the PC and PS3.

Just a side note, I own both the 360 and PS3 but I am not a blind ignorant fools as many of the PS3 fanbase is!

Both versions will look good. How about we wait and see some actual footage from the game (from both versions) before starting the age old one vs the other word battles? Can’t we fucking grow up already and must we really continue the idiotic console war cycle with EVERY NEW GAME? Let’s grow up, shall we?

LOL, you must be mentally retarded. For the past 2 years in a row it’s been a PS3 exclusive that has won the “Best Graphics” award at the VGA’s. Why? Because the 360 is a crap console and all it’s games have crap graphics, that is a fact. A fact braindead morons like yourself can’t understand because you don’t research the games industry before posting.

PS3 beats both the 360 and the PC in graphics, gameplay and online. Which is why PS3 games like Uncharted 2 win GOTY and crap PC/RROD 360 games don’t even get a mention.

Next time you want to debate quality, at least get your facts straight otherwise you’re going to continue making a fool out of yourself like the rest of the 360 fanboy moron fanbase.

Hahaha. Looks like there are a ot of fanboys around here.

      @ DEan:

The PS3 has a GPU comparable to a 6800 ultra. Now please explain me how this 3 year old card is going to be better than a 5970 or a 295?
Of course it isn´t. Next one: Cell Processor.
Despite what you seem to think an I7 beats the Cell in lots of situations. (and lots of PC processors do it as well)

A modern PC is unmatched by any console.
¿online gameplay? Better in PC too, In consolized games without dedicated server support you can get very high pings rendering unplayable the experience. In a true PC game with dedicated server support you can have a server near you and get good pings (and therefore playable gameplay)

I don´t say that consoles are shit. I´m pointing at the fact that both “next gen” consoles out now can´t really match a medium budget PC.

LOL, PC more powerful than a PS3? What a moron, why does no PC game look even half as good as Killzone 2 or Uncharted 2?

Maybe, MAYBE a supercomputer optimised for high - end graphical performance and manufactured in Japan MIGHT be able to pull off PS3 graphics but for the average desktop……LOL, keep dreaming. PS3 is far too powerful for any average PC to keep up.

Please explain me how a 2 year old game (the original Crysis) still beats the latest PS3 game (U2)
And try to explain it with real words, not saying “not true” (everyone with eyes will see it´s true)

Really, you must be blind (no offense intended)

please take a look here “NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang stated during Sony’s pre-show press conference at E3 2005 that the RSX is twice as powerful as the GeForce 6800 Ultra.[2]”

Sorrym in the previous post i stated it was as fast as the 6800 ultra. It´s twice as fast (doesn´t matter really, modern cars are 4x at the less)

I don’t know I’ve been comparing and I think uncharted 2 and killzone 2 look slightly better than crysis on high. Of course crysis maxed out theres no competition. I hope they do a better job optimizing their code this time so you can get better graphics with about the same specs as before. This looks pretty sweet and I’m excited

The PS3 version will look much better than 360 version, and much better than any PS3 game. This is because Crytek’s engine can actually take advantage of all the PS3’s cores.
A 4 month old video of the PS3 looks like Crysis on high, with ultra-super-mega shadows which the previous CryEngine can’t handle.
The game will run on consoles at about 1280×720. MW2 runs at 1024×640, or something. Both have 2x multisampling.
I’ll be buying it on PC, and I can’t wait!

lmfao! aww dear the person who said that a PS3 is more powerful then a PC actually made me LOL

Get some real hardware specs for a PS3 and then you’ll see why they can sell them so cheaply, it’s got VERY little to do with the hardware, i know that for a fact but i’m guessing that the only thing it’s got left is the OS, so put an OS in my hardware. 4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 5850 and 4GB of ram and i’ll show you what the DUCK is real power!

The game will be the best looking game on consoles for sure. However not even the PS3 version will come CLOSE to the PC version. Crytek’s CEO Yerli even said that the PC version will look MUCH better than the console ports.

Also, if you saw the Cryengine3 demo on consoles you will see that the Xbox AND the PS3 version are almost INDENTICLE.

But no matter what happens the PC version will look the best by far.

Yeah…I don’t think so. The PS3 graphics card has 256MB of memory and has a bandwidth of 22.4GB/s and the graphics capabilities of DirectX 9. I have a PS3 and yes it is an improvement over the last console, but it is nowhere near my computer. I’ve got a core i7 which has 8 virtual cores, 6GB of RAM at 1600mhz, a GTX 295 with 1792MB of memory and a bandwidth of 223.8GB/s. Compare that to a PS3…8 virtual cores vs 1, 6GB RAM vs 256MB, 1792MB VRAM vs 256MB, 223.8GB/s of bandwidth vs 22.4GB….A PC can easily topple a PS3 or any console for that matter. Windows 7 has DirectX 11 which is way better than 9. PCs are capable of Anti-aliasing, which smooths out lines and edges in case you didn’t know. I am a huge PC fanboy, BUT I do like some PS3 exclusives like Gran Turismo 5, LittleBigPlanet, and MGS4 to name a few. All in all, PC’s are more powerful than a PS3 or any console. On the other hand, consoles are purpose built, and therefore a lot cheaper than a high end PC.

rofl. I’m a PS3 fanboy at heart, but there is no way in hell the PS3 can even come close to high end PC graphics. Just bought my GTx 280, and man does it blow my PS3 away. BUT, PC is a solo experience, and games like LBP and Cod cannot be shared with friends on the PC, despite the PC looking 2x as good. But honestly, the 360 does have a better GPU, but the Cell processor can handle some of the physics and graphics, so they are basically even… The 360 can have more AA due to better GPU, but there are some devs that crank out the most of the Cell processor (naughty dog) and show what the Ps3 can do. I dont know what people expect these days when they buy a console anyways. I mean, 300 bucks for a gaming system??? My GPU alone costs that much. Don’t expect great graphics from either the Ps3 and the 360, the hardware ain’t so good. Its up to creativity of game developers. I went with a Ps3 because half of the shit you get on Xbox 360 is available for my PC, and it looks alot better…

Of course an xbox 360 will appear similar to a ps3. The games that you can play on both an xbox and ps3 were developed first for xbox. When it is adjusted to run on a ps3, it does not take advantage of the full potential of the system. Anything that is exclusively made for ps3 looks much better than any xbox 360 game.

I don’t get the big deal with Crysis, I’ve seen gameplay of it and it’s a impressive looking game but I wouldn’t say I was blown away by it, I mean the way people go on about it you would think it’s miles ahead of any other game but to me I’ve seen games on consoles that look almost or just as good.

Crysis 1 or 2 isn’t going to look that good on a PC unless you have an expensive top end one. And seriously how many people have that. I would think most people would have your average priced PC. So me I’m happy with my PS3 and 360 and not have to spend a massive amount of money on a PC. So I’ll be happy playing Crysis 2 on my console, which I’m sure will look impressive.

Not trying to attack people who play on the PC or Crysis fans, I just don’t get the obsession with it.
