EA has had quite the opening to a new decade with the lauded Mass Effect 2 selling like warmed through cakes and also debuting at the top of the UK charts. The company remains confident of the road ahead, and is looking towards Star Wars: The Old Republic as a genuine contender to the World of Warcraft throne.
Speaking in an interview, Dr Jens Uwe Intat, EA’s European VP of sales, acknowledged World of Warcraft’s “very impressive product success” and “loyal community” over the last several years. However, EA remains particularly assured of The Old Republic as a future hit, citing the franchise’s asserted popularity and prevalent fanbase as “a totally different reason for buying than just buying another massively multiplayer online game.”
“We do feel that the title has a very strong proposal, and we’re very confident that it will be super-successful,” Intat added. And things can only get rosier for EA with Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Dante’s Inferno just on the horizon.
