Grasshopper Manufacture gains composer from Silent Hill series

Quickly finding a new home after his departure from Konami two months ago, Akira Yamaoka has joined Grasshopper Manufacture, makers of Killer 7 and the No More Heroes series. In what is shaping up to be quite the super project, his first contribution will be composing for the to-be-announced horror title coming from Grasshopper head Goichi Suda and Ex-Capcom employee Shinji Mikami, director of such series as Resident Evil and Devil May Cry. Yamaoka is famous for composing as well as directing titles in the Silent Hill series and a multiude of other game franchises.

In an interview with Famitsu (translated by 1up), Yamaoka said “It was a case of really good timing. I knew about Suda long before I met him; I saw Grasshopper as one of those few Japanese outfits whose games can appeal to an overseas audience. I had a chance to meet him in Los Angeles and we talked about this and that, and once we started discussing how we wanted to do something creative for a world audience, I was hooked on the company.” Yamaoka stated that he will focus on the musical end of things to start and then hopefully move on to a bigger role at the company.

Although the first title Yamaoka will be working on lacks a title, the names that will make up the credits are enough to get buzz going around. All three game creators have extensive background with some of the largest horror franchsies – Yamaoka with Silent Hill, Suda with the Japanese only 4th installment of the Fatal Frame series, and Mikami with Resident Evil.
