It’s just a rumor right now, but Videogamer has a source who says Nintendo will unveil a new platform at the Game Developers Conference this March. Their source also says that some developers have started working on said platform, but can’t confirm if it’s a Wii successor or portable device.
We already know where Nintendo stands on this matter: If they’re going to release a new console, it’s going to be a major upgrade and not just a belated move to high definition. Remember, every Nintendo console upgrade has come with a major control change since the SNES introduced shoulder buttons back in 1991. That’s why we’re taking this piece of news with a big grain of salt. That said, if Nintendo were to show something groundbreaking, GDC would be a good time and place to do it considering the mounting excitement of Microsoft’s Natal and Sony’s Arc as it may be called.
