Why is PS3’s Section 8 PSN-only? “Demand”

Yesterday’s announcement of the PlayStation 3 version of TimeGate Studios’ sci-fi FPS Section 8 being available only as a download from PlayStation Network came as a bit of a surprise. The shooter was released on the Xbox 360 and PC in boxed form last September, making us wonder why the PS3 version went the digital-only route. We inquired as why that is.

“While there were rumors of the PS3 being a retail product, we never officially decided to go that route,” a TimeGate rep told TVGB. “We evaluated different “to-market” scenarios, and found that there was a strong demand for full scale games on the PlayStation Network.” There you go then.

The ‘extensively improved’ title will be available sometime this spring.
