Test Drive Unlimited 2 announced for a 2010 release

The rumored Test Drive Unlimited 2, a follow-up to the 2006 free roaming racer, is in development at Eden Games for a fall 2010 release, Atari has announced.

The game will once again carry the M.O.O.R. badge (Massively Open Online Racing) and, instead of Oahu, will have players zig-zagging and exploring a new, yet to be confirmed, island.

A revamped single-player narrative mode is confirmed, along with weather effects, day and night cycles, vehicle damage, new race types, vehicle classes, environmental challenges “and much more”.

According to Atari CEO Jeff Lapin, TDU2 “fits squarely into our strategy of moving online and generating new revenue streams while maintaining our current retail business,” which sounds like frequent downloadable content releases may be planned.

Like said above, the game’s being targeted for a fall release this year, for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
