We likely won’t hear about this officially until the Game Developers Conference kicks off on Tuesday, but word is that developer Valve will be porting some of its hit games onto Macs in the near future. The speculation is that Portal, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead and Half-Life 2 will all make the transition. Could this mean that the recently revealed Portal 2 goes straight to Macs this holiday season as well? Right now it’s just an Xbox 360 and PC title, but perhaps we’ll hear more on this at GDC.
Another issue surrounding this news is the transformation of Macs into gaming platforms. We already know that the iPod and upcoming iPad are eager to become gaming devices. If more developers follow Valve’s lead and produce for Macs, the PC could see its advantage fade away in the eyes of game enthusiasts.
