The dismissal of Infinity Ward bosses Vince Zampella and Jason West has not caused a domino effect at the Modern Warfare developer; the remaining employees are staying put, but not necessarily by choice.
According to Kotaku sources, Infinity Ward pays its employees regular or even low salaries but offers “ridiculous royalties” to compensate, something that allegedly isn’t a high priority on mothership Activision’s to-do list right now.
The videogame giant is apparently intentionally delaying the royalties in order to keep the studio intact, an accusation similar to that made by West and Zampella’s lawyers at O’Melveny & Myers LLP. “Activision terminated their employment weeks before they were to be paid substantial royalty payments as part of their existing contracts for ‘Modern Warfare 2,’” a statement released last week reads.
“After all we have given to Activision, we shouldn’t have to sue to get paid,” Zampella added.
The morale at Infinity Ward, the source says, is “extremely low”.
