Sega has expressed interest in turning some of their more recent properties, the recently released Bayonetta and Aliens vs Predator among them, into franchises.
“We want to get the core games right before anything else,” Sega West president Mike Hayes said in a recent interview. “We’ve got our shooter with AvP and our RPG with Alpha Protocol – we really want to make those into franchises.”
Following the game’s successful debut, Aliens vs Predator developer Rebellion brought up a possible sequel as well. “..there were a lot of things we couldn’t fit into the original,” co-founder and CEO Jason Kingsley was reported as saying last month. “We are trying to do all the right things to make the franchise a success now and in the future.”
A sequel to Alpha Protocol has also been mentioned; Sega studio director Constantine Hantzopoulos said in January that there are people in the company who are already coming up with “some concepts for, eventually, AP2“.
“If you think about it,” Hayes continued, “we can sequel-ise Bayonetta, AVP, Alpha Protocol and we can make a hit of something like Vanquish“.
