Red Steel 2 fails to capture retail success

Despite numerous gameplay improvements and positive word from critics, Ubisoft’s Red Steel 2 did not weather its first week at retail well. The sword-swinging sequel made its entrance on the UK’s all formats sales charts at the disappointing 34th spot, leaving us wonder as to the franchise’s future.

Another notable sequel release of the week however, Avalanche Studios’ open-world paradise actioner Just Cause 2, is off to a great start; the feat of grappling itself all the way to the top of the charts even has the Swedish developer talking of a Just Cause 3.

Looking at some other big names; Battlefield: Bad Company 2 slips one spot to number 3 while God of War III, last week’s number one, drops to 7. Final Fantasy XIII, last week’s 3rd, is now at number 8.
