Hitman and Kane & Lynch series developer IO Interactive is thinning its ranks. Owner Square Enix Europe has confirmed that the 200-man studio has undergone “organizational changes” and is cutting an estimated 35 positions.
“Every studio has to take decisions to ensure it is operating effectively as projects start up and ramp down,” a spokesperson tells GI.biz. “IO Interactive has assessed the internal and external resources needed to support its pipeline and this has led to organizational changes which includes the loss of some roles at the studio. We believe that this decision will make IO continue to deliver great games and add momentum to our operations.”
The rep added: “We would like to thank all employees affected, for their contribution and efforts and wish them well in their future careers.”
IO is currently in the midst of finishing Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days ahead of its August launch, and hopefully working on the next Hitman game as well.
