Microsoft confirms PrimeSense role in Project Natal

As it’s been speculated for a while, Project Natal‘s motion-sensing tech is provided to Microsoft by Israeli start-up PrimeSense, a joint press release from the two companies today reveals.

“PrimeSense has delivered an important component to the technology, helping us deliver revolutionary controller-free entertainment experiences in the living room,” vice president of Xbox 360 hardware Ian Spillinger is quoted as saying.

Natal’s sensor was developed based on PrimeSensor’s reference design “to support the special requirements of ‘Project Natal,'” PrimeSense founder and president Aviad Maizels adds.

The motion controller is set to reach the consumer this holiday season, with a full blowout happening at a dedicated pre-E3 media gathering.
