Here’s why the Stimulus Package was borked

You may have noticed that Modern Warfare 2 ‘s Stimulus Package launched yesterday. You may also have noticed that it was knackered, kapput, broke. Here’s why.

According to Xbox Live operations manager Eric Neustadter, the launch problems were the result of the maps going public before a title update was released. The result – “a big hairball we had to unwind”.

Here’s Neustadter’s full quote, via the Xbox Live Operations Blog. “The Stimulus Package was released on March 30, before the Title Update for Modern Warfare 2 became available. Thus, the DLC would not work properly.”

“For a couple of hours the result was unpredictable but most people couldn’t get into a game through matchmaking. In technical terms, it was a big hairball that we had to unwind.”
