The yet-to-be-officially-announced Gears of War 3 will be looking to freshen up the familiar gameplay and take players to locations not before seen in the series, rumor has it.
Edge’s “US publishing source” — the same one who predicted an April announcement for the title — has informed the publication that the third Gears game will introduce new elements to the series’ cover system, as well as new locations and underwater missions.
New weaponry and enemies can apparently also be expected, among them mech suits, “explosives that can travel beneath the ground to take out enemy cover positions,” and “Locust foes with tentacle-like appendages which are capable of extending to player cover spot”.
If and how much of this is true should be revealed in the coming months; series’ design director Cliff Bleszinski will announce a new game, widely believed to be Gears of War 3, on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Monday evening. And, if the previous rumor is correct, a full reveal will follow at E3 in June.
