The British government passed the controversial Digital Economy bill this week, a new act that has wide ranging implications across the technology sector. But we’re only interested in the face-shooty stuff here at TVGB, so let’s concentrate on that shall we?
Perhaps the most relevant measure included in the bill was that PEGI will now be solely responsible for videogame classifications in the UK. As it stands, the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) share the responsibility.
PEGI were backed by government over the BBFC back in June last year. In response, PEGI rolled out their new ratings system, designed to reduce confusion over individual games’ suitability.
If you would like to know more about the Digital Economy Bill and its implications, then the BBC seems like a decent place to start.
