Looks like it’s going to be a while before we see the next Star Wars: Battlefront game.
Despite the lack of an official announcement, development duties for Star Wars: Battlefront Online are believed to be the responsibility of Slant Six, creators of SOCOM Confrontation and SOCOM Fire Team Bravo 3.
However, there’s been a disturbance in the force.
Speaking to Gamespot, Slant Six managing director Brian Thalken revealed that, “Our current project needs do not align with our current staffing levels.” As a result, an undisclosed number of developers have been “temporarily” laid off until their workload picks up again.
Meanwhile, according to Kotaku sources, the reason for these lay-offs is that Star Wars: Battlefront Online is currently “on ice.” Apparently, publishers LucasArts shelved the game as there is already a glut of Star Wars titles set for release next year. That means we may not see SW:BO before 2012, or beyond.
Star Wars game on ice? There’s a Hoth joke there somewhere.
