Ex Infinity Ward bosses form Respawn Entertainment, partner with EA

Promised news about dismissed Infinity Ward heads Jason West and Vince Zampella’s “creative future” came very soon indeed; the duo has announced the formation of Respawn Entertainment, a new studio bent on duplicating the successes of Infinity Ward. With EA.

“Respawn Entertainment marks a fresh start for Jason and me,” Zampella, the studio’s general manager, said. “For the past decade we led a great development team and poured our hearts into creating an epic game franchise. We’re very proud of what we built – and proud that so many millions of fans enjoyed those games. Today we hope to do it all over again — open a new studio, hire a great team, and create brand new games with a new partner, EA.”

EA, through their EA Partners program, will be giving Respawn and the duo “the support they need to hire a team and return to making incredible games,” EA Games Label’s president Frank Gibeau said in the announcement, hoping the partnership will produce “blockbuster game franchises”.

“We’re excited,” Jason West, now Respawn president, added. “Now that the team is in control of the games and brands [Respawn’s leadership will hold the rights to whatever intellectual properties they create], we can ensure that the fans are treated as well as they deserve.”
