Reports have surfaced that Peter Chernin, former head of Fox Entertainment Group and News Corp, has been in talks with Microsoft to bring an exclusive television channel to Xbox Live. The channel, jointly owned by Chernin and Microsoft, would feature original programming and re-runs of television shows targeted at young males, Xbox Live’s major demographic.
Chernin, who now owns Chernin Entertainment, has been confirmed to be looking toward digital distribution. “Peter is talking to lots of people about lots of ideas in the digital space,” said Allan Mayer, Chernin’s publicist. The general acknowledgment neither confirms nor denies talks with Microsoft, but with the “phenomenal success” of SkyTV on the 360 it would be difficult to not believe.
The report continues that the cost of the new channel would be funded by a $1 to $2 increase in the subscription price of Xbox Live.
