Not so long ago, videogame companies were limited to two methods of advertising their products: buying space in game outlets and sending scantily costumed models to E3. But, with the ever increasing popularity in games has come more creative methods of advertisement (i.e., Assassin’s Creed II web videos, in-game ads, etc.). In concert with Fox, Rockstar is arguably pushing the bar of creative promotion for its upcoming release, Red Dead Redemption.
The television network will be airing a half-hour animated film this Saturday.
Created by The Road director John Hillcoat, the short movie will serve as a prologue to the game’s plot. While anything produced by the same group who brought GTAIV to the world will naturally generate strong interest, it’s still quite impressive that a major broadcast network is devoting 30 minutes of airtime to the promotion of a videogame.
