Square Enix is launching a new game label specifically for the mature-rated western titles it localizes for and/or publishes in Japan, the company’s announced via the latest issue of Famitsu.
Square Enix Extreme Edges it’s called and, as it launches early next month, will encompass future CERO-D (17+) and CERO-Z (18+) titles; that means games like Modern Warfare 2 and future offerings from its Eidos subsidiary, with August’s Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days likely being among of the first.
CEO Yoichi Wada is hoping the new label will help getting rid of the misconception that Japanese gamers shun western products.
