Apple’s new ‘must-have’ product, the iPad, has rocketed off shelves to the tune of 1 million units in just 28 days, topping the iPhone’s pace of 74 days to reach that same number. The millionth unit sold this past Friday, the same day that Apple released the 3G enabled version to the public.
“One million iPads in 28 days—that’s less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Demand continues to exceed supply and we’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers.”
According to Apple, users of the iPad have grabbed over 1.5 million ebooks from the free iBookstore and in excess of 12 million apps from the iTunes App Store. No breakdown of the types of apps downloaded were given, but if we were to wager on a percentage, our money would be on games topping all others.
