Call of Duty has delivered 17 million map packs

The Call of Duty franchise has to date sold through almost 17 million map packs, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick revealed today on the publisher’s Q1 2010 earnings call, a figure that doesn’t yet include the already record-breaking PlayStation 3 version of Modern Warfare 2‘s Stimulus Package.

But despite the runaway success on the digital marketplace, the company has no intentions of putting any less focus on their retail efforts. “While our direct-to-consumer digital business is growing, our continued success will come only through the tremendous support of our fantastic retail partners,” Kotick said on the call, adding, “We have every intention of doing this again this year with Call of Duty: Black Ops.”

Activision is currently ‘laser-focused’ on Black Ops — an “extraordinary multiplayer product,” the executive says — and will support it with a blockbuster launch in the fall; the game was dated for November 9, 2010 last week.
