30 frames per second is enough for Gears of War 3, according to Epic’s Cliff Bleszinski. The buttery smoothness of 60fps is sacrificed so the studio could “put more on screen,” the design director says.
“Our target is, and shall remain, 30fps,” he confirmed to CVG following some shaky online translations of a Russian magazine. “When asked about 60 we always respond that we’d rather have the extra juice to put more on screen and stick with 30.”
That “juice” should produce some mighty impressive results then; Bleszinski’s said in the past that Epic aims to maintain their “visual leadership” with future products (Gears 3 announcement came roughly a month later).
“We got ahead of everybody with Gears 1, [with] Gears 2 we kept that, and with future products we want to definitely maintain our visual leadership,” he said in March.
