THQ next to take the ‘code in a box’ approach

THQ may have beaten EA’s Online Pass to the punch with an eerily similar approach.

As EA announced last week, all future EA Sports titles (starting with next month’s Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 11), will include a code that can be used to activate the games’ locked-by-default online portion. THQ’s UFC Undisputed 2010 has now been discovered to use just such an approach.

In an official response to an inquiry on the matter, THQ leaves things a little blurry but states that the main enhancement of the game’s “premium online content” is a new Fight Camp Mode which will be available via “a one-time code included with the game at purchase”. So it may be more ‘project ten dollar‘ than Online Pass; THQ promises to release more details on Undisputed‘s community site.

Those who pick up second-hand copies can purchase the code separately for $5 (instead of EA’s $10).
