Square Enix has announced that Dragon Quest IX will be busting out of the confines of Japan and will be heading to North America and Europe in two months’ time; July 12 and July 23, respectively.
The DS game has been out in Japan since last summer and done quite well. After selling 2 million copies in its first week of availability alone, the latest numbers from Square now place it behind Final Fantasy XIII as the second highest-selling game in the publisher’s 2009-2010 fiscal year line-up: 4.26 million units.
To compare, last summer’s Batman: Arkham Asylum has sold through 2.34 million copies worldwide in roughly the same time frame.
