Resistance developer signs with EA, goes multiplatform

Insomniac Games has gone multiplatform.

Known for PlayStation exclusive franchises like Ratchet & Clank and Resistance, the developer has stepped into a publishing agreement with EA Partners to bring an all-new franchise to both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The new property is in development at the company’s Burbank studio and is the studio’s first multiplatform project in its 16-year history.

No further details or release dates were announced.

Ted Price, CEO of Insomniac, has commented that despite the new venture, the company intends to stay committed to its PlayStation-only franchises.

“Our dedication to Ratchet & Clank, to Resistance and of course to Sony remains as strong as ever,” he said in a video message to the fans explaining the deal. “We will continue to work with Sony on games.”

Comments from Sony mirror the attitude, but also offer a tease at future PlayStation-exclusive properties.

“Sony Computer Entertainment and Insomniac Games will continue to build upon a strong, successful 14-year partnership that has led to more than 35 million games sold and enjoyed by fans around the world. We look forward to unveiling Insomniac’s next PS3 exclusive properties in the near future.”

Price promises more details on the new game universe to be revealed “over the next few months”.
