Sony, slow down! SOCOM 4, LittleBigPlanet 2, Killzone 3, Infamous 2 all announced in the past few weeks/months, and now, just days before E3, they’ve revealed MotorStorm Apocalypse. But hey, leaks had pretty much confirmed this one, so we’ll let them off.
Evolution Studios are back to give us another round of brutal racing, this time set in “The City”, an abandoned location that has fallen victim to a natural disaster. The setting gives way to some Split/Second-like features, such as buildings that topple over during the race. Unlike other titles though, the buildings will stay down, and each track gets progressively worse throughout the three days of the MotorStorm festival. This in turn opens up new routes, adding a new layer to the regular multi-course tracks.
There’s even the promise of a plot this time round; three different characters represent three different difficulties for the story mode, and Evolution are keeping hush hush on other details that could be key to gameplay like people that don’t want the festival going on.
Beyond the gameplay, the dev is piling on the features with 4-player split-screen online, vehicle customisation, even cut-scenes that display the festival’s culture. Seeing as Killzone 3 is going 3D and today’s PS3 3D update goes live with a MotorStorm demo, we wouldn’t be surprised if this one jumps on the bandwagon too.
What space will Sony have for one of it’s lesser-known franchises at E3? Will Apocalypse fit in between Sev and Cole? Next week will reveal all.
