Rumor: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II’s multiplayer scrapped by LucasArts

LucasArts once intended to include multiplayer play in this October’s Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, the rumor has it.

According to a Joystiq source, an online component to go alongside the LucasArts-developed single-player campaign was in the works at Vancouver-based Dead Rising 2 developer Blue Castle Games, but was canceled by LucasArts this April.

LucasArts’ executive producer Haden Blackman admits that “all possible features” of a multiplayer component were discussed internally, but that the team decided to focus on a “really solid” single-player experience instead.

As for the Blue Castle rumor? “…can’t talk any specifics about that or even whether they were doing it,” he says.

When reached for comment, a Blue Castle rep said the studio ‘doesn’t comment on potential business relationships’.

The Force Unleashed series may go online in the future though. Blackman says he would be “surprised if we didn’t see some multiplayer and co-op somewhere down the line”.
