Several UK retailers have began calling for more mainstream-friendly, sub-£100 (~$150) pricing for Microsoft’s upcoming Kinect motion controller. HMV, ShopTo and Morrisons among them.
$149.99 pre-order listings for the device have been popping up since last week, including on Microsoft’s own online store. However, all prices, no matter where they’re found, the company says, are at this point speculative as no official pricing as been announced.
“Sub-£100 and Kinect will benefit immensely,” Morrisons games buyer Nick Sultanti tells MCV. “People are going to compare price points between Move and Kinect and it would be fairly detrimental if there is a major price discrepancy in favour of Move.”
Adds HMV games chief Tim Ellis: “Kinect is likely to find a significant audience with a market-responsive price.”
Microsoft may feel additional pressure from retailers like GAME who’ve began listing competitor Sony’s PlayStation Move main and sub-controllers for £5 less to undercut competitors.
Microsoft is expected to reveal its pricing plans by Gamescom this August.
