Square Enix’s Hashimoto says FF V and VI could be 3DS bound

Here’s some good news for Final Fantasy fanatics: Final Fantasy V and VI could be making an appearance on the 3DS if Square Enix’s Shinji Hashimoto likes how the new handheld performs upon release. Sure, both of these classic RPGs have made appearances on the original PlayStation and on Game Boy Advance, but a release on the 3DS would represent a significant jump in technology compared to the prior two platforms.

That means we’d be looking at a remake along the lines of the DS version of Final Fantasy IV… and then some. Judging by the sales performance of past DS iterations, we think Hashimoto will be leaning closer and closer to remaking V and VI as the 3DS release — set for March of 2011 at the very latest — draws closer.
