THQ has revealed plans to release a download-only Red Faction title prior to next year’s retail release of Red Faction Armageddon.
According to Danny Bilson, THQ’s VP of core games, the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network-bound title will be released “about three or four months before Armageddon,” which would place it around December 2010 / January 2011.
The executive explains the project: “What’s interesting is that we will sell it to the fans, it will have content you can download that is TV show-related [likely to be created in partnership with Syfy, as heard a while back], it will build up to the new game and also we can use it to drive pre-orders, too; we can give codes and aspects of it, we can give the whole thing away.”
The publisher will be using these types of “multi-faceted mini-games” with other upcoming titles as well; Saints Row 3, to be revealed in December, will have “the biggest trans-media play anyone has ever done,” Bilson teases.
Red Faction: Armageddon releases next March, on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
