I’ve never been to Korea, but as far as my understanding goes there are two things plenty of Koreans are partial to: World of Warcraft and a nice bit of StarCraft. Understandably Blizzard are more than aware of these dual national obsessions, having unveiled their latest plan to make access to StarCraft II free to any Korean possessing an active World of Warcraft subscription.
Not that Blizzard’s grip on South Korea is going to slip anytime soon, but this is a fantastic way to keep people playing their MMO, as well as managing to bring in a whole heap of new subscribers come StarCraft II‘s imminent release. Nicely enough Blizzard have described the offer as “a way of giving something back to such a supportive and skilled community of players.”
It seems unlikely that a similar deal will reach the western world, but a man can dream/start a futile online petition.
