Red Faction movie to bridge the gap between Guerrilla and Armageddon

Here’s a new one; normally bridging the gap between two games is done by a handheld spin-off, animated short, or maybe even a novel, but THQ are really going for it with Red Faction: Origins.

Set to air in March 2011, Origins is a 2-hour live action film for Syfy. It will follow Alec Mason, the hero from Red Faction: Guerrilla and his family lineage at a time in between both that game and the upcoming Red Faction: Armageddon, due for release at the same time.

The project is being written by Andrew Kreisberg, whose other work includes Fringe and Boston Legal. Paul DeMeo, Director at THQ’s Fiction Development (who knew THQ had a Fiction Development section?) came up with the idea for the story.

Personally I love nothing more than to sit down with one of those cheesy Syfy movies and a bowl of popcorn and laugh the evening away. Seeing as it’s based on one of my favorite videogame IPs, it’d be nice if Origins delivered a bit more than that though. Fingers crossed for Galactica quality.
