Originally released in 2002, Mafia was easily the best of the ‘GTA knockoffs’ that flooded the marketplace during the first half of the decade. It presented the player with a highly authentic setting and (at the time) stellar graphics, but at the same time its darker tone and methodical gameplay made it stand out from the GTAs of the world.
It was well worth the $50 I paid for it way back when, but if free sounds like a better price point, then here’s an offer just for you. From now until the launch of Mafia II, through select digital retailers such as Steam, people who pre-order Mafia II will instantly receive a copy of the original Mafia free of charge. This offer extends to both the normal and the “Digital Deluxe” versions.
If you’ve never played the original game and Mafia II is of interest, this would be a great way to get ready for the sequel’s launch in August. Alternatively, if you want a physical copy of Mafia II, I’m sure you can find the original dirt cheap in numerous PC bargain bins, just make sure to get the PC version and not one of the shoddy console ports.
