Developer dispatch on the music of The Old Republic

BioWare and LucasArts have let loose a new video feature on the music behind Star Wars: The Old Republic, featuring small tidbits from several composers, audio designers, and performers involved with the soundtrack.

The video is definitely worth a watch, as the interviewees reveal a lot of the intricacies involved with making music for games. The topics include the process behind recording live music, imitating John Williams’ style, and, above all else, meeting the expectations of the Star Wars fan base.

Near the end of the video, Jesse Harlin, music supervisor and composer of LucasArts, mentions that “music is such a funny discipline because if you do it right, you hope that people don’t really notice it…you just want it to be felt.” Such is the way of the soundtrack.
