4A Games’ definition of “very near future” is ca 3 months; Metro 2033‘s Ranger Pack DLC, first detailed in May, has today been dated for August 3.

The content adds two new weapons (Heavy Automatic Shotgun, Volt Driver), achievements, and two ‘Ranger Mode’ game rules. In the first, standard mode, ammo has been considerably restricted, weapon damage is beefed up and enemies put up more of a fight.

The second mode, Ranger Hardcore, does all the above and also completely removes the HUD for that extra immersiveness punch.

The DLC will be free through Steam and 240 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live.

A 3D-enabled sequel to the post-apocalyptic RPG is also in the works, publisher THQ confirmed late last month.
