BioWare recently proved that nothing says ‘open-ended WRPG’ more than 1,000 story variations in Mass Effect 3, as the team elaborated on the story’s versatility faster than you can say “Chrono Trigger“.
Following suit of the second installment, Mass Effect 3 will show the fruits of the player’s choices made in the past two games. With so many possibilities on hand, one can imagine things can get complicated, right?
According to Mass Effect 2 project lead Casey Hudson, yes, things are pretty complicated.
“We plan out the larger plot points of the story from one game to the next, but it would be impossible to plan it all in advance,” Hudson’s told PC Zone. “More importantly, we’d never be able to plan as many creative opportunities if we’d do it all up front. Instead, we record what a player has done in a play-through, and then we have all of those choices available that writers can refer to as they build storylines…”
Hudson goes on to mention that there over 1,000 variables set to come back to greet (or haunt) the player in the third game. Here’s hoping things don’t get tangled up.
